Week 5, September 11th - 15th

Torsion Powered Airplane

 Day 5
We completed and trimmed the winglets.  We also installed the wing shim to improve the wing angle of attack.  We then installed the wing and propeller.  Finally, we tied the rubber motor, and installed it on the airplane to complete the airplane.

Day 6
We flew the airplanes.  Students are assigned to trim their airplane, and otherwise adjust it's flying characteristics so it will fly for at least 12 seconds.  Students are awarded 7 points per second, and anything over 12 seconds I will give extra credit for.  Students may take as many tries as they like to get 12 seconds or more, and they always get to keep their best score.

Day 7
We went out to fly airplanes 2nd period for a short time, but it started to rain and we had to come back to class.  For the remainder of the time 2nd period, and for the rest of the day we watched part of a video about the Wright Brothers, and how they worked their way through the problem of flight.  The intent of watching the video was to learn from the Wright Brothers' example.

Day 8
We were weathered out again today, so watched the rest of the video, then worked on CDA#4, Exploring Non-traditional careers.

Day 9
We flew all day.
