Week 2 January 8 - 12
Day 1 - We completed an assignment titled "About Me" for which students wrote 3 or more sentences describing something they would like Mr. Stratton to know about them. Students could tell about their interests, abilities, favorite foods, pets, etc. This assignment can be completed at home.
We also completed the Interest and Ability Survey. This is a short survey which would only takes about 5 minutes to complete. So, if you were absent you are welcome to come before or after school, or even during lunch to make up this work.
We then finished up the day by completing CDA #10. The purpose of this activity is to make you familiar with some online tools that can help you learn more about careers you may be interested in.
This assignment can be made up at home. Ask Mr. Stratton for a worksheet, then use the resources below and the instructions on the worksheet to do the work.

Day 2 - Planet Zorcon - We conducted a simulation of traveling to the Planet Zorcon to learn about the necessity to manage natural resources like water, soil, minerals, oil, etc.
Because this was a class activity it cannot be made up directly if you were absent. You are welcome, however, to do a little online research about management of natural resources, then write in your own words what you learned. You would need about a page, single spaced, to make up the points you missed.
Day 3 - We discussed the need for alternative fuels and sources of energy. We then learned about biofuels, and watched a video about how ethanol is made. We then discussed some jobs in the biofuels industry - which is a part of agriculture.
To make up the assignment you can watch the video here, then write in your own words a couple of paragraphs describing what you learned.
Day 4 - We learned about GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms), why we use them, and some of the benefits and drawbacks of GMO's. We also talked a little bit about DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), then we extracted DNA from strawberries so students could get a little taste of what it's like to work in biotechnology as a part of agriculture.
Because today's assignment involved a class activity, it cannot be made up directly. Instead, students are welcome to do a little online research about GMO's, then write in their own words what they learned. Students will need about a page, single spaced, to receive full credit. Use the extra credit written report guidelines to ensure full credit.
Day 5 - Harvesting Tech - For the last activity in our Agriculture unit we watched a video that showcased the progress and innovation of harvesting technology. If you missed this day you are certainly welcome to come before or after school to watch the video, or you can do some online research about harvesting technology and write in your own words what you learned.
